Asia Golsse - Designer

Specializes in:

Print design, web/interactive design, as well as a strong interest in trend and new media research.

Suzanne Skinner (Sr. Production Designer at Corel Corp.) says:

"Asia has excellent communication skills. In addition, she is extremely organized, reliable and computer literate. Asia can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. She is flexible and willing to work on any project that is assigned to her. Asia was always quick to volunteer and assist others."

Asia says:

"I love what I do, and sometimes I need to be pulled away from it. It's so important to continue to grow and stay current within the print and web design world. I do so by pushing myself to learn in terms of innovation and trends, and to always listen to positive criticism from colleges. I take pride in my work, but I also know when to take a step back. I believe strongly in the concept of team work and always look to surpass the clients expectations."

When she's not working:

Asia enjoys taking pictures, spending time with her fabulous family, having fun with her amazing therapy dog, and she loves the challenge of cooking something new.

Coolest accomplishment:

Completing Sheridan Web Design with Honors while commuting more than 1000 km's per week! "It made me realize that if I really want to do something -- I can."

I don't dye my hair. I grow it.

I donate it to cancer.

Who hasn't been affected by cancer? Cancer affects whole families not just individuals. I know from personal experience that when an individual looses their diginity it can really hurt the quality of life they experience. We as a community ought to help individuals in need. I like helping others.

I have an amazing husband. I also have an amazing dog.

We're both certified Therapy Dog handlers.

It was inspired by bus rides home from St. Lawrence. I would see elderly people eating by themselves, and no visitors. Then we heard that St. Johns Ambulance has Therapy Dog teams who go into retirement homes and visit the residents. I like that.

We also like "Paws for Reading", it's a program where kids with learning disabilities read to a dog, to develop their confidence and reading skills. Renaud and Porter are certified for this program! It's exciting.

I've been called Asian. But I'm not.

I'm Polish and I'm Canadian.

My formal name is Joanna. In Polish it's pronounced "Yoh-ahn-nah". Sometimes they call me JoAsia...the diminutive is Asia ("Asha" or "Ah-shah"). It's like William and Bill or Richard and Dick. It makes no sense to me, but that's the way it is. And I like it.

I love graphic/web design of all sorts.

I really enjoy layout, typography, and web design.

I enjoy constantly growing by learning, and researching every day.

I always want to know more. I ask a lot of questions.

I need to be creative on a daily basis, and I often stay up too late.

There aren't enough hours in a day for all the things I'd like to do.

I have enjoyed photography for over 20 years.
