She Thinks I’m Her Personal Nut Picker

| October 5th, 2011 | Comments Off

Chestnuts

There’s this little cheeky squirrel…she doesn’t like to get her paws dirty. She prefers it when I pick the chestnuts, so she can snatch them once I’ve de-shelled them. I watched her through the window take my chestnut off the table and run.

Even though the thorns are slightly bent here and there, and broken over there…they still hurt when you pick them up. I was unpleasantly surprised.

Chestnuts

Our dog tried to help gather the chestnuts. Yup, he’s silly. Even though they would “bite” him, he didn’t give up.
What a trooper.

Chestnuts

One of these times, I’m going to get her ‘on film’. So far; no luck. She’s far too quick.

Clever too.

And these are the reasons I picked them.

When we lived in Poland, every fall we’d go gather chestnuts and acorns, and various other bits, like twigs. We’d get the box of matches, and the box of toothpicks, and get to work. It was fun.

June Ninth Twenty Eleven

June 9, 2011 = Convocation.
It was just me and Ashley. I guess that kept things short ;)

Otherwise, I’ve been keeping busy behind the scenes and getting used to ‘being back’!
I’ve done some branding, photos for Kingston Life Magazine, picked up a small part-time job, and I’m still working on some personal projects.

Will post some stuff once I know I’m allowed. Whoo!

Back to work!

The Beginning, Not the End – Graduating from Sheridan Web Design

| May 1st, 2011 | 1 Comment »

So it’s been a long-short haul. If I had blinked, I would have missed it.

Overview

  • Met a lot of fabulous people, who became my family away from home—Thank you :)
  • 5 Weeks before the end of term, I found out that I’ll be dealing with a death of someone close.
  • Survived living away from my husband (who is more amazing than I thought already)/family
  • Lived with my Mom-in-Law and got to know her better
  • Commuted 120 km+ daily, plus another 800 km’s+ on weekends to help out at home
  • And I survived.

  • Faculty

The faculty have been amazing. A super supportive team, with one goal—for you to succeed. Knowing when you need support or more knowledge, and had just the right timing to give you a kick in the pants when you needed it. And just because you’ve graduated, doesn’t mean they’re done helping you succeed.

    Peers

The group of people I have been with…amazing. Everyone from a different background. All equally talented. I hope to keep in touch with everyone, but I know that there’s a handful whom I’ve become much closer with.

    Work

I’m really happy with the type of projects we did this year. All relevant to what’s going on in the industry. I’ll be TLC’ing my work for sure. That much commuting lessens the amount of time you have, that’s for sure…

    Conclusions

I can’t believe I called myself a ‘web designer’ before this program, because quite frankly, I wasn’t. I needed the knowledge that I acquired this year to actually call myself a Web Designer…

Well. For starters, check out our class’ work:

Secondly, check out Creative Niche. They offered to host out Industry/Graduation night early on in Semester 1…and thaaankgooooodness they did. It was amazing. They did lots of work behind the scenes for us, what an amazing team they have. Their space is stunning. And the turn out was fantabulous. It was hard to nab a computer to show one’s work! Yay!

Check out some of the photos the Creative Niche in-house photographer took of our event:
